To become a Maryland Mason:

• You must be a man of at least 18 years of age. Freemasonry is not open to ladies, but once a Man becomes a Mason there are many ways that the rest of his family can participate in Lodge life.
• Believe in a Supreme Being (we do not dictate which faith or religion you follow, or require that you belong to a specific sect or church. You just cannot be an atheist).
• Be of good moral character. You won't be admitted to a Masonic lodge if you have ever had any serious criminal convictions.
• Ask to join of your own free will. No one will ever ask you to join a Masonic Lodge. To be one you must ask one.

• Have TWO members of the Lodge vouch for you. If you don't know any Masons personally, CLICK HERE to contact us directly for an introduction.
• Initiation in Mount Ararat is $250 plus a $25 non-refundable background check fee. Your initiation fee of $250 will be paid directly to the Lodge held and until you are initiated. In the event you are not elected to receive the degrees of Masonry, that fee will be returned. Shortly after you petition, you will get an email from the Grand Lodge of Maryland with links to an online background check. The fee of $25 will be paid online and is non-refundable.
